Making Sense of the Bears’ Offseason

by Anthony Licata

The Chicago Bears have already had a busy offseason, and it only started last week. Here are the moves they’ve made so far:

  • Drew Dalman (C) Unexpectedly retired at age 27
  • Cut Tremaine Edmunds (LB)
  • Sent a 2027 5th round pick to the patriots for Garrett Bradbury (C)
  • Sent a 2026 5th round pick and DJ Moore (WR) to the Buffalo Bills for a 2026 2nd round pick.
  • Signed Coby Bryant (S) on a 3-year 40 million deal.
  • Signed Devin Bush (LB) on a 3-year 30 million deal.
  • Signed Neville Gallimore (DT) on a 2-year 12 million deal.
  • Signed former lions Kalif Raymond (WR) to a 1-year deal.
  • Re-signed Braxton Jones (LT) on a 1-year 10 million deal.
  • Re-signed Case Keenum (QB) on 2-year deal worth 5.5 million.
  • Re-signed D’Marco Jackson (LB) on a 2-year 7.5 million deal.
  • Re-signed Daniel Hardy (DE) on a 2-year 5 million deal.
  • Signed Kentavius Street (DT).
  • Signed Cam Lewis (CB) to a 2-year deal.

When the Bears traded DJ Moore and a 2026 5th round pick to the Bills for a 2026 2nd round pick, I was shocked. However, after looking at how DJ Moore’s stats declined over the last few seasons, I can see why the Bears traded him. In 2025, Moore caught just 50 passes for 682 yards and 6 touchdowns in 17 games while Rome Odunze caught 44 passes for 661 yards and 6 touchdowns in 12 games. Not only did Odunze play just as well as Moore, but the Bears were also paying Moore $24.5 million to Odunze’s $5.68 million. By trading Moore, the Bears cleared $16.5 million in salary cap space while also receiving a 2026 2nd round pick in return. This extra cap space can be used to improve their pass rush and bring in new linebackers since they released Tremaine Edmunds at the start of free agency.

The NFL Draft is just around the corner, and the Bears have pick 25 in the 1st round along with two second round picks. I expect Ryan Poles to pick a defensive lineman, linebacker, or edge rusher with at least two of those picks. The 2026 NFL draft is scheduled for April 23-25, and I can’t wait to find out who Ryan Poles drafts.
