The NFL season has begun, and with the way NFL fanbases are, we can look at some of the biggest overreactions just one game into the season. Everyone has done it before, including me. As a Green Bay Packers fan, losing to the Saints in 2021 felt like everything was going bad; they ended up going 13-4. This year, week one had some crazy games with some crazy results which lead us to three notable overreactions.
Is Caleb Williams the Guy?
After the 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the Chicago Bears fanbase is starting to grow concerned about Caleb William’s ability to lead the team, and a small number of fans have started floating the idea of starting Tyson Bagent. However, it looked like Williams was forced to leave the pocket many times in the game, leading to inaccurate passes. Some of the blame could be on Ben Johnson for not calling a great game throughout the second half, but regardless, the Bears offense struggled and it’s worth keeping an eye on throughout the season to see how they can improve as they head to Detroit.
How Long Until Jaxson Dart Starts?
The New York Giants in their 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders proved that Russell Wilson shouldn’t be starting an NFL game this year. It was proven by his stats, posting 168 passing yards with a QBR of 25.5. This poor performance has already called Giants and Jaxson Dart fans to call for the team to make that move, but Russell Wilson was announced the starter for week two. Even if Wilson isn’t the starter moving forward, I don’t believe they would go straight to starting Dart. I believe they would go with the veteran, Jameis Winston, who’s been known as a hit-or-miss QB who likes to go for the deep ball. Keeping Dart on the sideline to develop should be a top priority for the Giants, so I don’t expect a move anytime soon.
Will there never be a WR1 on the Chiefs?
Once again, the Kansas City Chiefs lost a wide receiver early in the year due to an injury caused by another Chiefs player. Last year, it was Rashee Rice tearing his ACL trying to avoid Patrick Mahomes, and this year, Xavior Worthy is dealing with a shoulder injury caused by running into tight end Travis Kelce. Part of the reason for the loss against the LA Chargers in Brazil was that with no true receiver, Mahomes had to rely on short yardage plays and couldn’t go for big plays. Worthy doesn’t have a timetable yet and Rashee Rice has 5 more weeks of a suspension before he can return to the Chiefs, but if that loss taught us anything, it’s that the Chiefs are a team to beat early this season.
We’re one week (and one game) into the 2025 season, so there’s a long way to go, and that means there will be a lot more overreactions. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the chaos of the season.
