Short ‘n Sweet is A Perfect 10

by Gray Bunch

After winning Grammys for Best Pop Vocal and Best Solo Performance, Sabrina Carptenter released Short ‘n Sweet Deluxe on February 14 as a thank you to her beloved fans with a featured duet on her song “Please, Please, Please” with Dolly Parton,”15 Minutes,” and more. Carpenter released the original album, Short ‘n Sweet, on August 23rd, 2024, and it topped the Billboard 100. The hit song “Espresso” has been in the top 100 for 45 consecutive weeks, along with 7 others.

I’ve been such a fan of Sabrina Carpenter since the release of “Feather” in 2022, which sparked a conversation about if it’s acceptable to record a music video with provocative lyrics in a catholic church. Regardless of that controversy, her lyricism and stage presence captured my attention. Yes, I’ll admit, the release of “Espresso” on April 11th, 2024, became very tiring very quickly due to the overuse of the song on platforms like Instagram Reels and TikTok, but I’m not a hater. I love the song, and I knew it was going to be the song of the summer. Even if it wasn’t the song of the summer for you, it was for me.

Short ‘n Sweet is an album about a woman exploring her love life in a way that’s relatable for a lot of women. Songs like “Sharpest Tool” focus on the idea of never talking about anything that could help the relationship improve and noticing toxic behavior. I believe any relationship, not just romantic, should be built on trust and strong communication and doesn’t depend on a “superiority complex,” as the song suggests. This song doesn’t get a lot of love, and it definitely deserves a lot more, at least as much as “Good Graces” and “Taste” get. I give the album a 10 out of 10 because Carpenter embraces her femininity and her significance as a woman without letting a man take her down. With the deluxe version of the album, I truly believe Sabrina Carpenter deserves all of the recognition she’s getting. She’s worked hard and faced a lot of adversity with this album.

Carpenter is currently on the European leg of her tour and will be back in the United States with stops in Nashville, New York, and Los Angeles in October and November.
