Nick Jonas has been teasing an upcoming solo album with his single “Gut Punch” for a few months. He’d been back with his brothers, performing and making music, releasing their album Greetings From Your Hometown August 8, 2025. Nick hadn’t released any solo albums since Spaceman in 2021…until now. On February 6, he released his fifth studio album, Sunday Best, which features eleven tracks.
The album starts off with the track “Sweet to Me,” which discusses the sweet things in Nick’s life. Sometimes, things might be a little too sweet such as finding out Nick had diabetes in the line, “When the doctor told me, ‘There’s too much sugar in your bloodstream,’ Baby, that’s too sweet, It’s just too sweet.” Nick’s vocals are on point as always with a chorus of background vocals.
The second song, “Handprints,” talks about wanting to slow down time with his loved ones. He says if he could go back and relive those moments, he would do it again. He describes memories, like, “Took the service elevator. Let us out on 8th. My daughter and the doorman got a secret handshake. Going to the tavern a few blocks down the road. We could get there faster if we took a car, so we don’t.” He mentions the love for his daughter in the track “Princesses” as he describes enjoying playing pretend with her. He wants her to “stay this small. Cause sooner or later you’re seven or eight and that dress won’t fit anymore.” He expresses that he’s “fascinated by your questions. I’m terrified to let you down.” I can feel the love he has for his daughter throughout the slow song. It is beautifully written and the instrumentals add to the beauty.
If you’re looking for a song that hits deep, listen to “Gut Punch.” This track might just give you goosebumps. It tackles the topics of self-hate and treating yourself with disrespect. The track progresses from sadness to almost frustration as it starts from piano and goes to electric guitar with the help of the drums, which really drills the emotion into you.
My favorite song on the album, “Hope,” has such a different energy to it. The beat is hypnotizing and makes you really feel the lyrics. Jonas once mentioned in an interview that he’s inspired by church from his childhood which is why there are some gospel vocals incorporated in some of these tracks, but especially “Hope.”
If you’re looking for a good pop album to listen to, I would recommend giving Sunday Best a listen.
