JC Heerdt

- Alumni Spotlight

Years at WONC: 1996-2000

As one of the creators of Local Chaos in 1997, JC left a lasting impact on WONC, as the show went on to become the longest-running show in the station’s history, currently at 25 years. Serving as the Assistant News Director and Program Director, he also contributed to the station’s success off the air. It was this combination of skills that led to a successful career in broadcasting.

After graduating, JC spent 11 years on the air in LaSalle-Peru as JC Phillips. He began his career reporting and writing news for a seven-station cluster, and eventually moved into a role hosting mornings on a “small town centric” Country station, afternoon host on at an Active/Classic Rock station, and as a weekend fill-in for a Top 40 station. In 2011, JC created an event company named “Guys On the Radio” with fellow WONC alum Jon Shapiro, hiring local radio talent to emcee weddings and corporate events.

In 2013, JC moved away from radio as a full-time career, and transitioned into a career in marketing, while still occasionally appearing on radio stations in the Lasalle-Peru area. He’s currently the Senior Marketing Executive with Ficek Elecetric & Communications in LaSalle.
