WONC has been a part of the fabric of life in Chicago's western suburbs for more than forty years. We first went on-air back in 1968. Since then we have gone through manys changes but continued to grow and stay dedicated to our listeners.
We are an entirely student run station. That means every DJ, newscast, sportscast, traffic report, and sports broadcast you hear is a student of North Central College. Of course we could not do it without the help of John Madormo, Assistant Professor of Broadcast Communication at North Central.
The station's programming is described as AOR -- that's "radio lingo" for album-oriented rock. We differ from other stations due to the variety of music that we play. It is very rare on a radio station that you can hear Three Days grace or Motion City Soundtrack followed by the likes of The Beatles and CCR. It's a wide mix of music with an emphasis on balancing new rock with classic rock and all points in between.
We are on the air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The radio voice of North Central College is always playing the very best in Pure Rock!
